Cross Country Automotive Services and ORBCOMM Team to Offer Cost-effective Telematics via Global Satellite Communications
MEDFORD, Mass., and DULLES, Va., May 16, 2005 -- Cross Country Automotive Services (Cross Country), a leading provider of integrated vehicle and driver programs, and ORBCOMM, a global satellite telecommunications company, today announced the successful integration and certification of their wireless satellite data and mobile customer service delivery systems. In addition, the companies have entered into a business agreement that helps bring cost-effective alternative telematics technologies to the consumer marketplace. The agreement builds upon the successful joint demonstration of telematics services at this year's Consumer Electronics Show with Delphi Electronics & Safety.
Through this partnership Cross Country has access to the ORBCOMM network, which provides reliable satellite communications services to customers around the world. Leveraging this network, Cross Country's response centers will gain access to critical vehicle information including location, alarm data, speed information, direction of travel, starter, disable, and remote door unlock. The satellite-based network provides wide coverage including in some areas where people are most vulnerable - that are not covered by cellular or other wireless technology. ORBCOMM-enabled devices are available from Delphi and others, and will be offered across Cross Country's market segments as part of its Integrated Telematics Services(SM) strategy that blends technology- enabled safety and convenience services with proven high-value products such as roadside assistance.
"Both automakers and aftermarket electronics providers are looking for a spectrum of communications and service options that allow them to offer peace of mind at an affordable price. Cross Country's teaming with ORBCOMM means a simpler, faster way for our clients to bring these services to market," said William Tolhurst, Senior Director of Cross Country's Advanced Solutions Group.
"By combining Cross Country's innovative services, Delphi's hardware solutions that offer functionality at a very low price point, and the reliability of our global satellite network all customers will be able to access a very affordable safety solution they can rely on," said Jerry Eisenberg, Chief Operating Officer of ORBCOMM.
