Indian Ground Vehicle Testing Facility Selects MTS Multi-Axial Durability Test System

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., May 10 -- MTS Systems Corporation today announced that it has received an order for an enhanced multi-axial durability test system from The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), a premier R&D facility and apex certification body established to meet the testing needs of India's major automobile manufacturers and component industries.

"MTS has a long history of working with customers across the globe to address the most complex and demanding ground vehicle testing challenges," said Sidney W. Emery, Jr., MTS chairman and chief executive officer. "We're very excited to be collaborating with ARAI to meet the evolving test demands of the growing Indian automotive industry."

"The new multi-axial test rig from MTS will be the only one of its kind in India, and represents a firm step forward in achieving end-to-end solutions for meeting the upcoming challenges and testing requirements of OEMs in India and abroad," said B. Bhanot, director, ARAI. The system will be deployed in ARAI's state-of-the-art Structural Dynamics Lab (SDL), which provides testing services to both ground vehicle and component manufacturers.

The MTS system will enable ARAI to conduct durability and fatigue tests on full motorcycles, as well as evaluate four-wheel vehicle suspension systems. It also provides a tool for use in conducting ride comfort studies, analyzing operating deflection shapes (ODS), and performing vibration tests. The mechanical simulator consists of two spindle-mounted fixtures that can be configured to input vertical, lateral and longitudinal forces through both front and rear axles for 2-wheel vehicle tests, or through a single axle for 4-wheel vehicle tests. The system is designed for use with MTS Component RPC(R) Pro (cRPC(TM) Pro) software, a state-of-the-art control package that performs multi-channel, real-time simulation based on force and motion data captured on the road or test track.

"MTS is a leader in providing accurate and reliable road simulation systems," said M.R. Saraf, senior assistant director - SDL, ARAI. "MTS engineers worked closely with us to design a custom road simulator that will meet the specific testing needs of our customers, now and into the future."
