Herr Takes Over Air Force Reserve Focus in SPEED Touring Car
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 9, 2005) - Techsport and The Air Force Reserve have
announced that Chip Herr, of Litiz, Pa., will take over the controls of
the Techsport/Air Force Reserve Ford Focus for the remainder of the SCCA
Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car season.
Herr replaces Memo Gidley, who had competed in 11 SPEED Touring Car
races for Techsport dating back to the beginning of 2004.
"This is a great opportunity to run a competitive car for the remainder
of the season, and I am looking forward to driving the car for the first
time," Herr said. "Representing the Air Force Reserve is a huge honor,
and I cannot wait to get back in a front wheel drive car."
Focused on repeating the success that made him the 2004 SCCA SPEED World
Challenge Touring Car Rookie of the Year runner-up, the 22-year old Herr
switches teams after previously driving an Audi A4 Quattro as part of
the Team STaSIS effort through the first three rounds of this season.
In 13 career SPEED Touring Car starts, Herr has amassed three top-10
finishes including a sixth-place finish at Lime Rock Park last season.
In 2003, he earned nine podium finishes in 11 events en route to winning
the inaugural Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Atlantic Tour
Championship.
"We are excited to get Chip in the car and I am confident that he will
be challenging for overall wins right away," team owner Andy Brown said.
"It is important for Techsport and the Air Force Reserve to have a
professional and talented driver, and I am sure Chip will do a great job
for the team."
Herr will don the AFR colors immediately, beginning with round four of
the 2005 SPEED World Challenge slate - the SPEED World Challenge
Presented by Trenton Forging Quality Formed Solutions, May 20-22, at
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
Gidley will continue to represent the Air Force Reserve in Grand-Am
competition.
The Air Force Reserve Focus is also supported by Ford Racing parts and
Motul.
