ExxonMobil Announces Summer Speedpass Promotion; Speedpass -- the Fastest Way to Pay for Gas -- Offers Convenience and Rewards for Both New and Existing Customers

FAIRFAX, Va.--May 9, 2005--ExxonMobil today announced the details of its summer promotion for its Speedpass(TM) contactless payment system. Beginning June 1 through Aug. 31, 2005, ExxonMobil will provide a 5-cent per gallon discount to new Speedpass members for 90 days (up to a maximum of $20 per account) in most states on all purchases made with their Speedpass device. The discount will be posted to the credit card account to which the Speedpass device is linked.

"Speedpass is the fastest and most convenient way to pay for gas, and underscores our commitment to safely providing our customers with a speedy and rewarding purchase experience," said Mark Shores, U.S. retail sales director, ExxonMobil Fuels Marketing. "All you have to do is point your Speedpass device at the Speedpass logo on the pump, pump your gas, and go. There's no searching through wallets and purses for credit cards or cash. And it's equally convenient for making purchases inside the convenience store."

Speedpass electronic payment is available at more than 8,900 Exxon- and Mobil-branded gas stations and convenience stores nationwide. Speedpass accounts are conveniently linked to a customer's credit or check card, and there is no charge to the customer for its use.

In states where this discount is prohibited by law (New Jersey, Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina), new Speedpass customers will receive a $20 statement credit for activating a Speedpass account.

The second aspect of the program offers both new and existing Speedpass customers a single-serve bottle of water with any qualifying in-store purchase of $3 or more (excluding lottery) at participating On the Run, Exxon- or Mobil-branded retailers.

National radio advertising, direct mail, print advertising, Internet messaging, and on-site advertising will support the 90-day promotion.
