Kia Motors America 2005 Sets April Sales Record
Strong Sales of Spectra, Sportage, Sorento and Amanti Deliver Second-Best Sales Month in Company History
IRVINE, Calif., May 3 -- Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced monthly sales of 27,158 units for April 2005, a 15.9-percent increase over the same month in 2004 and the second-best sales total in the company's history. Kia's year-to-date sales of 90,487 were 9.3-percent ahead of the record number achieved in 2004.
"Following a record first quarter with our second-best sales month ever is a tremendous accomplishment, and a strong indication of the momentum created by our new or recently introduced products," said Peter M. Butterfield, Kia Motors America's president and chief executive officer. "In less than three months in showrooms the all-new Sportage compact SUV is already a hit, while other next generation products such as Sorento, Amanti and the Spectra sedan and Spectra5 five-door continue to be popular with consumers."
Kia's record-setting month featured strong sales performances from all of its products, including a Spectra sales increase of 56.7-percent over April 2004. Sales of the Amanti large premium sedan were also up more than 55-percent vs. the same month in 2004 with 2,687 units sold, and sales of the Sorento mid-size SUV continue to be strong as evidenced by its 10-percent increase over April 2004.
