PEE Channel Cameras Will Be Rolling at PINKS 'King of the Hill' Event
CHARLOTTE, N.C.--May 3, 2005--PEE Channel's much-anticipated new show, PINKS, scheduled to debut June 29 at 8:30 p.m. ET will be on-site at Orlando's historic Speedworld Dragway on May 26, 2005 and 28 to host and record a 12-car "King of the Hill" drag racing event with uniquely high stakes -- lose the race, lose your ride."In my younger years, I did a little bit of street racing in the D.C. area and I've seen races run for thousands of dollars, but never actually for pink slips," said Brian Bassone, a Marylander who heard about the show while attending last year's SEMA convention in Las Vegas. "I'm older and wiser now, and I don't want to go to jail for street racing, so PINKS gives me a way to do something I enjoy without the risk.
"We're curious to see how everything is going to be set up in Orlando," added Bassone, who is bringing a '93 Mustang Coupe. "But it has the feel of real street racing, where you walk around and pick on who you want to pick on."
Races will be run in a best three-out-of-five, drop-of-the-hand format, with any handicap negotiated between racers before each run. Medics will be on hand at all times and strict safety rules will be enforced.
What happens if both drivers refuse to negotiate?
"No problem," said PINKS host and creator Rich Christensen. "The deal they sign gives me both cars. We're really trying to create a true street-racing environment, so I bring the drivers together and get out of the way. I don't stand around and make up goofy rules for the race. We are trying to avoid the fake reality you see on a lot of today's shows."
So, what does Bassone have under the hood of the Mustang?
"I'm not telling anybody -- this is racing for pink slips," he said with a chuckle.
All entrants will be wired for sound from the time they enter the track until the time the competition is complete, and all have agreed to put their car titles (pink slips) on the line, leaving open the possibility that a single racer could leave the event with 12 automobiles.
