Volvo Cars Reports Steady April 2005 Sales for North America
IRVINE, Calif., May 3, 2005 -- Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) reported that its sales in North America (United States*, Canada, and Mexico) were up slightly for the month of April, with an increase of 0.9 percent compared to the same period last year. April has been a strong selling month for Volvo in recent years, and 2005 missed the 'all-time April' mark by a slim margin.
Sales in Canada and Mexico made significant contributions to overall NAFTA results. Canada reported an 11.8 percent increase, with 1,163 units sold -- its best April ever. Meanwhile, Mexico continued its growing trend with a 21.4 rise in sales -- 306 units sold. Sales in the United States* of 10,743 units was just short of last year's 10,788 sales.
On the product lines, the new S40 and new V50 continue to grow the segment. And, the Volvo XC70 continues to capture adventuresome spirits as its sales are up 3.5 percent. In addition, the XC90 V8 revved up its best month since introduction, as significant supplies made their way through the pipeline to meet consumer demands. Volvo's first V8 is the first V8 engine launched to meet ULEV II emission standards in addition to its legendary Volvo safety features. The transversely-mounted power plant is also a class leader for fuel-efficiency in its segment, a major attribute as gas prices continue to be a concern for most Americans.
"We are proud of our product range meeting the needs of today's modern families and lifestyles," said Anne Belec, Volvo Cars of North America, president and CEO. "With safety at our core and added driving excitement, we are focused to provide quality customer experiences -- the 'Volvo Way' -- in this extremely competitive North American market."
