DaimlerChrysler AG Reports Nine Percent Increase in U.S. Sales for Passenger Vehicles for April 2005

NEW YORK, May 3 -- DaimlerChrysler AG , the third largest U.S. auto maker, today reported total group sales of 225,351 passenger vehicles in the U.S. for April 2005, a nine percent increase compared to April 2004. All sales figures in this release are on an unadjusted basis unless otherwise noted.
Chrysler Group, which consists of the Chrysler, Jeep(R) and Dodge brands, posted sales of 206,546 vehicles in the U.S., an increase of nine percent. Adjusted for one extra selling day in April 2005 compared to April 2004, sales rose five percent. April represents the 13th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases for Chrysler Group, and for 18 of the past 19 months.
After launching a record nine new models in 2004, the Chrysler Group is launching several new models in 2005, including the all-new 2006 Jeep Commander, which was recently introduced at the New York Auto Show. In April, the company also started full-time production of the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger, due to arrive at dealerships later this spring.
Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) posted its highest April on record with sales of 18,805 units, a two percent increase compared to the same month last year. In April, the all-new 2006 M-Class, built in Vance, Alabama, arrived in Mercedes-Benz dealerships across the country. This fall, the company plans to increase its presence in the luxury light truck segment with the introduction of the R-Class which represents a new segment Mercedes calls the Sports Tourer segment. These models will further expand MBUSA's position as offering the widest product portfolio in the luxury vehicle market and the company expects yet another record year.
Detailed vehicle sales information for MBUSA and Chrysler Group will be announced later today in separate press releases issued by the groups. April 2005 had 27 selling days while April 2004 had 26 selling days.
