Mother's Appreciation Night at SSP on Thursday
Handicapping Begins for Sprint Cars at SSP on Thursday Night
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (May 2, 2005) – This Thursday night, May 5, handicapping
begins for the Sprint Cars at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. The
handicapping for the remainder of the season will be based on a driver’s feature event
finishes in the prior three events. This Thursday will also be Mother's
Appreciation Night at SSP to honor all mothers with a special surprise. Along
with "taking Mom to the races" the weekly SSP division of Xtreme Stock Cars and
the Central PA Legends Cars Touring Series will be in action. The Women on
Wheels (W.O.W.) makes their first appearance at SSP this season. All women
will compete in Xtreme Stock Cars.
Greg Hodnett from Memphis, TN continues to lead the SSP point championship
with three consistent finishes of first, second and third in the first three
events. Jason Johnson, Mark Smith and Hodnett have picked up Sprint Car
feature wins this season. Last season’s Track Champion Fred Rahmer from
Salfordsville continues to have bad luck at SSP this season as he had a left rear
flat tire after leading the first 15 laps of last week’s feature. Blane Heimbach
of Selinsgrove continues to impress SSP fans with three straight top ten
finishes (4th, 6th and 7th).
David Wilhelm of Havre de Grace, MD continues his early season dominance of
the Xtreme Stock Car class with three straight top five finishes (1st, 2nd
and 4th). The last two finishes came from starting deep in the rear of the
starting lineup. Wilhelm is the only driver to collect the double bonus money
this season. Michael Goodwin of Wellsville moved into second place in the
point championship by picking up the feature win last week. The Xtreme Stock
Car drivers eligible for the double purse money bonus are Goodwin, Wilhelm,
Gene Knaub, Charlie Pensinger and Matt Wampler. These drivers will
automatically start at the rear of the feature event, and if any or all of these drivers
make it into the top five finishing spots, then that driver will receive
double purse money for that position. These drivers will also compete in the
4-lap Pepsi Challenge Dash paying $50.00 to the winner.
Gates open in the pit area and grandstands at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at
7:00 p.m. with racing beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand ticket
prices are Adults (18 & older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; Children (6-12)
$4.00; and Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00. The
raindate will be Sunday, May 8 with the same time schedule.
SSP continues its Repeat Fan Discount in which there will be a $2.00
discount for each person with a ticket stub from the April 28 event only. For
example, $2.00 off an Adult ticket for May 5 with and Adult ticket stub from the
April 28 event. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address
and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings to
be held during the season for great prizes. Last season, the grand prize was
two tickets to the NASCAR race in October at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in
Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles
NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. For more information,
