AIADA Statement on Confirmation of Rob Portman

Alexandria, VA (April 29) -- American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA) Chairman Jim Evans today issued the following statement in response to today’s Senate confirmation of Rob Portman as U.S. Trade Representative:

“We are highly encouraged by the confirmation of Rob Portman. He has a long and well-documented record of support for free trade during his distinguished career in the Congress, and we’re optimistic that his commitment to free and open trade will continue as he negotiates future trade agreements.

“We look forward to continuing a strong working relationship with the USTR as we complete work on a number of important trade agreements. America’s 11,000 international nameplate automotive dealers are at a critical juncture with the U.S.-Thailand FTA, and we’re optimistic that Ambassador Portman’s commitment to free trade will help lead to the repeal of the longstanding 25 percent tariff on imported pickups from Thailand.”
