SemFuel to Provide TX-LED-Compliant Fuel to Early Adoption Customers
IRVINE, Calif.--April 27, 2005--After signing a contract with ORYXE Energy International to use the company's proprietary OR-LED additive, SemFuel, a wholesale distributor of refined petroleum products, is preparing to supply the Houston area with Texas Low-Emission Diesel (TX-LED)-compliant fuel prior to the October 1, 2005, TX-LED deadline.By acting now, SemFuel, in partnership with ORYXE Energy, will give early attainment options to customers in the Houston/Galveston non-attainment air shed.
"Together we are ensuring supply in the Houston marketplace, and SemFuel is now in position to work with early adoption customers," said Walter Schindler, chairman and chief executive officer of ORYXE Energy. "With the TX-LED deadline approaching, this source for compliant product will be critical to the Houston area."
SemFuel will consult with MidContinental Chemical Company (MCC), an ORYXE Energy distribution partner, to install the proper infrastructure to distribute an estimated 150,000 barrels per month of OR-LED-additized diesel fuel out of its North Houston terminal.
"A major part of our company's success is our reputation for customer service and competitive prices," said Sara Hordinski, SemFuel's vice president of marketing. "With ORYXE Energy's OR-LED additive in place we will have the flexibility to supply our customers with TX-LED-compliant product in the most economically feasible way."
OR-LED is the first and only splash-blended diesel additive to be approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for use in alternative plans to meet Texas Low-Emission Diesel requirements. The TCEQ unanimously adopted revisions to the Texas Low-Emission Diesel Rule which requires on-road and off-road diesel sold in the state of Texas to meet strict environmental guidelines for emissions reductions beginning October 1, 2005.
OR-LED's approval by the TCEQ followed a rigorous engine testing protocol performed at the West Virginia University National Research Center for Alternative Fuels, Engines, and Emissions Laboratory, recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency and certified by the California Air Resources Board. The tests were conducted under strict federal testing guidelines and procedures.
The tests showed that OR-LED demonstrated a greater than 5.7 percent reduction in Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx), greater than 20 percent reduction in Total Hydrocarbons (THC), the main contributors to smog formation, and approximately 10 percent reduction in Carbon Monoxide (CO), a poisonous gas, all major concerns for Texas air quality stewards. Widespread use of OR-LED in diesel fuel would result in reducing up to 6,000 tons of NOx annually.
