monetery quote:

“I definitely want to compliment Grand American and Laguna Seca for getting
the series to this awesome race course. The fans are going to get a great
show watching the Daytona Prototypes coming down the Corkscrew. This is one
of my favorite tracks and the place I won my first professional race. So, it
means a lot to me to be here racing again. As a team, we have a real
momentum from leading the last race at Fontana. Laguna is a very technical
track, a little different than Fontana, so it will be interesting to see how
we perform here. I can’t wait to get on track and show what the team can
do.”

to the point

Shane Lewis is currently ranked 12th in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car
Series Daytona Prototype championship. With 56 points, he is 21 points from
fifth and only seven points out of tenth-place. He has guided the one-car
Southard team to 11th in the team standings after three races.

fontana flashback

Lewis ran in the top-three at the most recent round at California Speedway
for 27 laps and in the lead, under green flag conditions, for three laps. He
did two stints in the No. 3 BMW-Riley, taking the green flag and racing to
third when he handed over the Southard entry. He returned to the car for the
closing laps retaking several positions, finishing 11th overall. Fontana
marked the highest running position that the Southard Motorsports crew has
had in DP competition. For Lewis, it was a return to the top spot. He is a
winner of four Grand American-sanctioned events.

memories

Among Lewis’ greatest memories is his first professional race win, the 1994
Supercar Championship event here at Mazda Raceway. The track also provided
Lewis with several other top finishing positions and he drove the
Chamberlain GT2 Dodge Viper-entry here at the prestigious FIA Championship
finale in 1997. The California native’s most recent race at Laguna Seca, in
a Ferrari 360 Modena, resulted in a seventh-place finish.
