Terry Borcheller - Laguna Seca preview
California-bound
Terry Borcheller will ease a Daytona Prototype race car around one of his
favorite race tracks for the first time this week. The Gainesville, Ga.,
driver will compete in the first Rolex Sports Car Series race at Laguna Seca
Raceway in Monterey, Calif. The twisting 2.238-mile road course will be a
challenge for the drivers and a treat for the fans.
"I love the track," Borcheller said. "I'm very excited to race at Laguna in
the prototype for the first time. Laguna is not the easiest track to pass on
and you've got some pretty serious competition. It should be a lot of fun to
watch – and fun to drive."
less weight, more power
Borcheller will drive the No. 54 Bell Motorsports/Feeds the Need
Pontiac-Doran JE4 in the May 1 Rolex Series race, sharing the wheel with
Ralf Kelleners of Dusseldorf, Germany. The pair will benefit from the
attention of team owner Jim Bell, who was fortunate to share the Aasco
Motorsports shop in Anaheim, Calif., between west-coast races.
"The prototype has lost a little bit of weight and gained a little bit of
power. Hopefully, there are more tricks up Jim's sleeve to make it more
competitive," Borcheller noted. "The car stayed at Dennis Aase's shop since
the Fontana [Calif.] race – they were kind enough to let us work out of
there."
Cup race
Borcheller will also drive the No. 33 Unitech Racing Nissan 350Z in a
Grand-Am Cup race on April 30. His co-driver, Mike Cronin, Jr. of La Verne,
Calif., will enhance his previous training at Laguna Seca with extra track
time. "This will be Mike's first time racing at Laguna, but he's got some
track time there and he's also going to run the Miata race, so that should
help him quite a bit," Borcheller said.
family time
Borcheller's wife Tracy and their two young children will join him in
Monterey. Following the race weekend, they'll travel to their former
hometown of Phoenix for a reunion with friends and family.
