A Proclamation
April 29, 2005
WHEREAS, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind in Talladega is the
nation’s most comprehensive education and service program for
individuals with vision or hearing loss, serving more than 11,600
people and their families each year; and
WHEREAS, Bill France, Jr. initiated Race Fever in 1986 so that NASCAR
might support the students at AIDB above and beyond their basic
educational needs, providing valuable funds for such life enrichment
tools as braille library books, assistive listening devices,
closed-captioning decoders, sensory development training, and more; and
WHEREAS, the outstanding support of NASCAR drivers through the donation
of autographed helmets, honorary pit crew memberships and other prizes
for Race Fever’s annual auction and barbecue have made Bill’s vision a
reality; and
WHEREAS, Race Fever, annually organized by the non-profit AIDB
Foundation, is the official charity of the Talladega Superspeedway and
is now celebrating its distinguished 20th anniversary:
NOW THEREFORE, I, Bob Riley, Governor of the State of Alabama, do
hereby proclaim April 29, 2005, as Race Fever Day in the State of
Alabama.
