Ask Andy and Mark Carrier, owners of Carrier Boyz Racing, and Cory McClenathan, the driver of the Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM AirHog Dragster, the same question and the trio would answer: "Yes, we want to win the U.S. Nationals, but nothing would give us greater pleasure than to win the NHRA O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals this weekend on the 40th anniversary of Bristol Dragway." Carrier Boyz Racing is based in Bristol, Tenn., the site of this weekend's event. For the Fifth annual NHRA O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals, the team will be running a special edition 40th anniversary Bristol Dragway race car. The front wing and nose of the Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM Air Hog Dragster will display a 40th anniversary Bristol Dragway logo on a chrome background. The chrome will give way to flames and change to the familiar orange and black colors of the FRAM AirHog Dragster. Bristol Dragway was founded and built in 1965 by Larry Carrier, the father of Andy and Mark. The brothers spent their formative years watching and learning the nuances of drag racing from their father and now own one of the most visible and competitive Top Fuel dragsters on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series - the FRAM AirHog Dragster. "Both Mark and I have spent our entire life around drag race," said Andy Carrier. "Dad built Bristol Dragway and Bruton Smith and his people have carried on and improved upon the legacy he built. Carrier Boyz Racing is proud that we can carry the 40th anniversary Bristol Dragway decal on our car during the Bristol race. It is a tribute to both the track and to Mark's and my dad." Added McClenathan, who is currently No. 5 in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel point standings, "I'm the lucky guy who gets to drive the special edition car this weekend. Our car has been running well of late and (crew Chief) Todd Smith and the crew will be ready. I would love to put the 40th anniversary Bristol Dragway FRAM AirHog Dragster in the winner's circle." One of McClenathan's biggest win and a $200,000 payday came at Bristol Dragway in 2000 when he won the Winston Showdown, a special race-within-a-race. *QUALIFYING:* Qualifying for McClenathan and the Carrier Boyz Racing 40th anniversary Bristol Dragway FRAM AirHog Dragster begins this weekend with two sessions on Friday, scheduled for 5 and 8 p.m., and concludes with two additional sessions on Saturday at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. McClenathan begins his quest for the Top Fuel title on Sunday with eliminations for all classes getting underway at 12 noon. *All times are local Bristol time (ET) and subject to change at anytime. * *TELEVISION: *Qualifying highlights for the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals can be seen on ESPN2 on Saturday evening (Apr. 30) from 7-9 p.m. ESPN2 will also air same-day television coverage of eliminations from 7 until 10 p.m. on Sunday evening (May 1).
