Hodnett Grabs SSP Victory on Thursday Night




NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (April 21, 2004) –  Greg Hodnett  drew a front row starting 
spot for Thursday evening’s Sprint Car feature at the  Susquehanna Speedway 
Park, and never looked back, claiming his first win of the  season.  In the 
season’s first Great  American School Bus Race, J.R. Rodriguez claimed the win, 
while David Wilhelm  made a spectacular drive from the rear of the field for the 
Xtreme Stock Car  victory and claimed the double money bonus. 
Hodnett started alongside polesitter Brian Leppo in the 25-lap Sprint Car  
feature, and outgunned Leppo to take the lead on the first lap.  He led all the 
way to score the $2,500  victory, his seventh career SSP win.  While Hodnett 
was maintaining a secure lead, and all out war erupted for  the second spot 
between Lance Dewease, Fred Rahmer and Jeff Shepard.  All three drivers held the 
second spot  at one time, but it was Dewease who claimed the spot at the end 
over Rahmer and  Shepard.  Leppo finished fifth.  Rounding out the top ten were 
Josh  Wells, Blane Heimbach, Eric Stambaugh, Cory Haas, and last week’s 
feature winner  Jason Johnson.  Heats went to  Heimbach and Leppo. 
J.R. Rodriguez vaulted from the fifth starting spot into the lead on the  
first lap of the 10 lap Great American School Bus Race, and then held off a last  
lap challenge from Alan Witmer to score the win.  Following the top two were 
Rob Harkins,  John Hiden Sr., and Paul Fisher.  Heats went to Shawn Arndt and 
Harkins. 
Wilhelm started 32nd in the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature  and took the 
lead from Mike Goodwin on the 18th lap.  Wilhelm also won the Pepsi Dash.  
Following Wilhelm in the feature event  were Mark Vegh, Mike Mixell, Adam Smith and 
Travis Horan.  Heat wins went to Tom Johns and Smoke  Christine. 
The next race at SSP will be Thursday  night, April 28 with the Sprint Cars, 
Xtreme Stock Cars, Classic Cars and the  One-on-One Street Car Drags.  Gates  
open in the pit area and grandstands at 5:00 p.m.  Warmups begin at  7:00 p.m. 
with racing  beginning promptly at 7:30  p.m.  SSP will continue its  Repeat 
Fan Discount in which there will be a $2.00 discount for each person with  a 
ticket stub from the April 21 event only.  For example, $2.00 off an Adult 
ticket  for April 28 with and Adult ticket stub from the April 21 event.  
Returning fans are encouraged to write  their name, address and phone number on the 
back of the stub to be entered into  special drawings to be held during the 
season for great prizes.  Last season, the grand prize was two  tickets to the 
NASCAR race in October at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North  
Carolina.  Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all track  
license holders.

(717) 292-1696 or at the pit gate on the  day of the event.  Bob the  
Undertaker from Tombstone,  AZ is the first entry for next  week’s event with his 1979 
Cadillac Hearse.  The first prize is  $250.00.
