Dallas, TX (April 18, 2005) – After last week’s nail biter in
Martinsville owner/driver Robby Gordon easily qualified 33rd and was up
to his usual tricks during the Samsung Radio Shack 500 on Sunday.
Early in the race Gordon was running as high as 17th but slowly dropped
to the 31st position where his hard fighting run would eventually come
to an end.
“We had a lot of confidence in our car,” said Gordon. “The Jim Beam
Chevrolet ran well in practice and our qualifying run wasn’t too bad.
We really thought we were going to have a good run this weekend.”
On lap 241, Gordon, running one lap down, spun coming out of Turn 2 and
slapped the wall to bring out the eighth caution of the day.
“The car was tight coming off the corners and we tried to loosen it up a
bit,” said Gordon. “After we made our first adjustment, we just
couldn’t get the car back to where we wanted it to be before we wrecked
it. It was a hard hit.”
Going into the Samsung Radio Shack 500 Gordon was sitting in 39th
position with 273 points. With Sunday’s 37th place finish Gordon earned
48 points and remains in the 39th position in the driver standings.
The next race on the docket for the Jim Beam car is the Chevy American
Revolution 400 on Saturday, May 14 in Richmond, VA. The race,
broadcast on FX will begin at 7 p.m. and finish under the lights.
