SAE World Congress News

Hello, I'm monitoring stories being published around the World Congress and
saw the investment in France story Auto Channel ran.

I've attached a rundown of technical stories we prepared for the show that
are available at the DuPont booth there. If anything is of interest to you,
I can send the full release, most have photos.

DuPont Automotive interview opportunities
at 2005 SAE World Congress

DuPont Automotive has an exciting lineup of new technologies and trends to
share during the annual conference of the Society of Automotive Engineers at
Cobo Center in Detroit on April 11-14. The SAE World Congress uniquely
brings manufacturers and suppliers together to share new technical
developments and state- of-the-art applications.

*	Curious about what's on the mind of engineers and designers at the
SAE show?
*	Interested in trends in reducing weight and cost while boosting
performance under the hood?
*	Want to learn about new materials to take on metals?
*	Interested in new trends in safety and how it is getting a new
"look"?
*	Working on a future feature and want to know if we have the right
connection?

1. The big picture: Results of the 11th annual DuPont Automotive/SAE survey
of show attendees will be released on/about April 6. At SAE, you can learn
more about opportunities and challenges presented by trends cited in the
survey.

2. Trends in under-the-hood systems and molded components: A new generation
of components that stand up in hot oil and hot engine coolants is emerging.
Learn where that's headed.
*	The new highly anticipated BMW K 1200 S motorcycle on display
features an oil tank made of DuPont Zytel(r) nylon 66 for strength and
performance, even after long-term exposure to hot oil.
*	New rocker covers using DuPont Zytel(r) and Minlon(r) nylon and
DuPont Vamac(r) gaskets deliver added functionality, improved resistance to
permeation, long life for 150,000 miles to replace thermoset or metal for
improved performance and reduced cost
*	Other innovative underhood applications, including a new water
jacket spacer, oil pump and more, which improve fuel economy and enhance
component reliability

3. Pushing back the barriers to metal replacement: An expanded portfolio of
super-structural plastics delivers stiffness, strength and impact resistance
much closer to metal properties than conventional engineering plastics. Find
out how they can reduce system costs and improve the performance of load
bearing parts for chassis, interior and external applications.

4. Upgrading E/E component performance: New DuPont materials meet needs for
warp-free control boxes, thin-wall connectors and other electrical parts
that stand up in hot, humid environments.

5. Trends in under-hood hoses, ducts and tubing: New DuPont ETPV - the
design flexibility of thermoplastic with the great resistance to oil, grease
and chemicals typical of conventional high-performance rubbers

6. Customer-focused innovation will help strengthen the auto industry:
That's a top-level finding from our annual pre-show survey of SAE attendees.
Some examples to be featured by DuPont at SAE:
*	Head-up display systems provide critical driver information when and
where needed - in the driver's sight line. DuPont Wedge safety glass
interlayer technology helps ensure the images are crisp and not a driver
distraction.
*	DuPont SentryGlas(r) Expressions is a new technology that allows
images to be digitally printed directly on DuPont SentryGlas(r) interlayer
for safety glass to offer unique branding, styling and badging
opportunities.
*	Tighter packaging and cool new headlamp and taillamp designs demand
high-temperature resistant materials, such as DuPont Crastin(r) PBT, that
can help reduce fogging, eliminate paint with direct metallization and
reduce post-secondary finishing.
*	The sunroof of the new Land Rover LR3 features a new bundled
offering from DuPont that includes color DuPont Butacite(r) PVB interlayer
and a new solar, IR reflective bilaminate. The bilaminate includes a layer
of Southwall Technologies Inc. XIR(r) solar film and a layer
of enhanced DuPont Butacite(r) PVB to help keep vehicle interiors cooler and
more comfortable.
*	Electronic materials systems for on-board automotive radar up to 77
GHz. These materials enable miniaturization and robust performance for
reliable operation of critical blind spot detection, parking assist, lane
departure and other collision mitigation functions in future safety system
design.
*	Electronic stability control systems rely on key components using
advanced DuPont engineering polymers.

7. Advances in impact absorption: With more stringent regulations for
interior, exterior and even pedestrian impact absorption on the way, DuPont
will showcase a range of materials for emerging safety systems, including:
*	Taking the cost out of side curtain airbags through new materials
and redesign is a DuPont focus, working with safety system suppliers.
*	Continued advances in materials are critical to the development of
active seat belt systems and other active collision pre-safe systems.
*	Air bag deployment doors rely on the continued development of DuPont
Hytrel(r) DYM for the proven reliability of air bag systems at temperature
extremes.
