BorgWarner Wins 2005 Automotive News PACE Award For Industry-First DualTronic(TM) Transmission Technology

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 12 -- BorgWarner Inc. was named a 2005 Automotive News PACE Award winner at a ceremony yesterday in Detroit. The award recognizes automotive suppliers for superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance.

BorgWarner was recognized for its DualTronic(TM) clutch and control module transmission technology, which enables a conventional-looking gearbox to function as a fully automatic transmission while delivering performance and fuel economy that rivals a manual transmission. The DualTronic(TM) system debuted to rave reviews on the VW Golf R32 DSG and Audi TT 3.2 DSG in 2003. The technology is now available on six VW/Audi vehicles and will be introduced on several other VW/Audi vehicles in 2005.

"A PACE Award is prestigious recognition for the BorgWarner team that collaborated so successfully with VW to bring the DualTronic(TM) system to fruition, and I couldn't be more proud of them," said Tim Manganello, BorgWarner Chairman and CEO. "I am likewise delighted by this affirmation of BorgWarner's global powertrain product leadership, and the remarkable results that are achieved when we put it to work on behalf of our customers."

The 11th annual PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contribution to Excellence) Award was presented by Automotive News, Capgemini and Transportation Research Center Inc. (TRC Inc.). The competition was open to suppliers who contribute products, processes, materials or services directly to the manufacture of cars or trucks. The Automotive News PACE Award is recognized around the world as the industry symbol of innovation. BorgWarner earned winner status following an extensive review by industry, academic and business leaders including a comprehensive written application and a site visit to BorgWarner Transmission Systems in Ketsch, Germany.
