Season Opener at SSP on Thursday
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (April 11, 2005) – This Thursday night, April 14, the
Susquehanna Speedway Park will host the season opener of it 51st racing season
featuring the Sprint Cars, Xtreme Stock Cars and Legends Cars. Fred Rahmer of
Salfordsville and Charlie Pensinger of Shippensburg look to defend their track
championships in the Sprint Cars and Xtreme Stock Cars classes respectively.
Along with its wide variety of entertainment presented last season, SSP will
add even more events for the 2005 season. The ARDC Midget Match Races have
been added to Thursday, May 12. A Great American School Bus Race has been
added to Thursday, June 9. Vandamonium has been added to Sunday, June 16 which
is Mini Van racing. A new event date has been added on Saturday, September
24 with Smashfest ’05 featuring Big Car and Small Car Demolition Derbies,
Roll Over Contest, Red Rover Racing and much more in this exciting night of
destruction.
An eight race series featuring the Trail Motors Super Sportsman has also
been scheduled for selected Sundays beginning on May 29. The series is anchored
by the 75 lap Inaugural Trail Motors Super Sportsman Championship to be held
on Sunday, September 4.
Gates open in the pit area and grandstands at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at
7:00 p.m. with racing beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand ticket
prices are Adults (18 & older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; Children (6-12) $4.00;
and Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a
reduced price of $18.00 for all track license holders. The raindate will be
Sunday, April 17 with the same time schedule.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4
miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. For more information,

SSP News and Notes:
- Weekly Sprint Car Purse Increased – Also during the off-season, SSP
announced the increase of its weekly Sprint Car purse. The starting field for a
regular point event has also been reduced from twenty four starters to twenty
starters. The purse increase of positions four through twenty makes it the
highest average purse of any Central Pennsylvania speedway at $620.00 per
position. The final starting position of $325.00, up from $200.00 in 2004 is also
the highest for any Central PA speedway as well. The sprint car purse for
2005 is as follows: 1) $2500.00, 2) $1500.00, 3) $1000.00, 4) $900.00, 5)
$800.00, 6) $650.00, 7) $525.00, 8) $450.00, 9) $425.00, 10) $400.00, 11 through
20) $325.00. Special events such as the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass PA Speedweeks
and the 5th Annual York County Nationals will remain at twenty four starting
spots with higher purses than the weekly purse as well.
- Hoosier Tire is the Official Tire of SSP – The Hoosier tire is the only
brand permitted for competition for the Sprint Cars, Trail Motors Super
Sportsman, Topless Late Models and Street Stocks in 2005. Check with the SSP

- Mufflers mandatory – Mufflers have been mandated for the Sprint Cars in
2005 at SSP. The muffler that must be used is a Schoenfeld Part #112535 with
no alterations permitted. The Schoenfeld mufflers are currently available at
Miller Racing Products by calling (717) 761-7247. The cost of the muffler is
less than $30.00.
