Avis Sponsors Achilles Athletes With Disabilities at Boston Marathon

PARSIPPANY, N.J., April 11 -- Avis Rent A Car System, Inc. today announced the third stop of its sponsorship of the Achilles Track Club "Marathoners National Tour." The national tour features athletes from the Achilles Track Club, a worldwide organization that encourages disabled individuals to participate in distance running with the general public.

The Boston Marathon, one of six stops along the tour, is expected to draw Achilles athletes with disabilities including the top male and female athletes from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center team -- Hilbert Caesar, an Iraq war veteran who lost his leg in Baghdad exactly one year ago on race day and Monica Szymanski, who lost her leg and hip to cancer and prior to joining the Achilles team, never realized that she had so much to offer. She now visits Walter Reed to encourage the newly wounded to join the team.
