Approva Software Offers Business-Friendly Access Right Controls to SAP Application Data within General Motors' Powertrain Unit

VIENNA, Va.--April 11, 2005--Approva(R) Corporation, the leader in enterprise controls management software, today announced that GM Powertrain is using BizRights(R) software for business-friendly access rights management and continuous monitoring of SAP application data, while preserving the stringent controls necessary to meet internal and external compliance mandates.

"At General Motors, the business managers are responsible for the data in our SAP system, and as a systems manager I needed a tool that was intuitive enough to be easily adopted by this group," said Lynn Crooks, manager, SAP Center of Excellence. "Given the complex nature of SAP security administration, it is imperative that these information owners have a business-friendly tool that enables them to request access rights and ensure appropriate controls as needed, without introducing new risk into the system. At the same time, we need to support our compliance efforts by proactively detecting and preventing possible control violations or conflicts that can arise within our ERP application."

GM Powertrain includes Allison Transmission, the leading brand in the design, manufacture and sales of medium- and heavy-duty automatic transmissions for trucks, buses, off-highway, RVs and military vehicles. Approva software is being used within the Allison Transmission group.

Approva BizRights software is the first tool to automatically detect segregation-of-duties issues, prevent new violations from entering production, and continuously monitors users, system settings and transactions to provide visibility into end-to-end business processes such as Procure-to-Pay and Order-to-Cash. It also ships with comprehensive business rules that enable everyone with a stake in corporate compliance to collaborate on controls. Using BizRights, companies are moving beyond reactive, point-in-time audits to continuous monitoring of ERP system activity and business process improvement.

"Good governance and effective compliance is only the beginning," said Prashanth (PV) Boccasam, CEO of Approva. "Companies today are looking to leverage their SOX 404 efforts to improve their business processes and increase efficiency at the same time. Having access to an enterprise controls management system makes it possible to transform compliance efforts into competitive advantage. The Approva BizRights tool is a cross-functional, business-focused application that is essential to creating a sustained compliance framework. It offers the best of both worlds: an intuitive tool that can be easily used by business owners, yet robust enough to become a trusted controls management product within the information technology group."
