NHRA Kurt Johnson Saturday Update: KJ Will Start Seventh in Houston

Event: 18th Annual O'Reilly Spring Nationals

Day/Date: Saturday, April 9, 2005

Location: Houston Raceway Park, Baytown, TX

On the strength of a 6.726-second, 205.10 mph pass made on Friday
evening, Kurt Johnson qualified his ACDelco Chevrolet seventh for
Sunday's final eliminations of the O'Reilly Spring Nationals in Baytown,
TX. With his spot in Sunday's field virtually assured, Johnson worked
on fine-tuning his race car during Saturday's final qualifying sessions.
Although he made two representative runs, the second-generation racer
looked for further improvement heading into race day.

"Although both runs were decent, we didn't make the gains we would have
liked. The car is throwing us a curve right now, just not responding as
well as we would like it to. It was fine in testing earlier this week,
as well as in the first round yesterday. But since then, it's been a
handful.

"We have some adjustments planned for the first round tomorrow morning
that we hope will convince it to cooperate. We know this ACDelco Chevy
has the performance in it - we just have to find the right set-up to let
it out."
