John D. Watkins Named Vice President, Cummins East Asia
COLUMBUS, Ind.--April 7, 2005--John D. Watkins Jr, Managing Director - Cummins East Asia, has been named a Cummins Vice President, the Company announced today.Watkins, 44, joined Cummins Inc. in July 2003 to lead its operations in China and East Asia after an 18-year career with Northwest Airlines that included significant experience in China and Hong Kong. Watkins is based in Beijing, where he oversees one of Cummins fastest-growing geographical markets. Cummins is the largest foreign investor in the China diesel engine industry, with consolidated and unconsolidated sales in excess of $1 billion in 2004.
Watkins started his career at Northwest in 1984 as a sales representative for the airline in China. He also served as Managing Director - Hong Kong, China and Taiwan, and was Vice President for customer service and ground operations for the airline's Southern and Midwest regions before spending his last four years at Northwest as Vice President and General Manager - China.

Watkins earned his bachelor's degree in marketing and international business from Miami (Ohio) University in 1982, studied Mandarin at Shanghai Normal University and earned his master's in management from Stanford University in 1995.
He was the co-founder and serves as a Director for the China People's Foundation, is Chairman of the Beijing International Christian Fellowship and is a board director for Junior Achievement China and the Capital Club of Beijing.
