Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress Heads to Detroit to Celebrate its 100th Anniversary
DETROIT, April 7 -- Downtown Detroit parking lots and restaurants will soon be bustling as the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) heads to Cobo Center for its annual World Congress from Monday, April 11 through Thursday, April 14.
SAE, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, is expected to bring $25 million in direct spending to the region, according to the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Research conducted for the Bureau by C.H. Johnson Consulting found that SAE also generates 418 jobs and $1.2 million in tax revenues for metro Detroit. Its delegates use about 12,500 hotel room nights throughout the region and fill area restaurants during their four-day stay.
"SAE is a critically important customer for Detroit because it brings enormous business into our community and puts the national focus on Detroit as a leader in new automotive technology," says Larry Alexander, president & CEO of the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We congratulate them on their 100th anniversary and look forward to a relationship that extends long into the future."
