Advance Auto Parts Names Elwyn Murray as Executive Vice President

ROANOKE, Va., April 6 -- Advance Auto Parts, Inc. announced today that Elwyn Murray will join the Company effective April 18, 2005 as Executive Vice President, Administration. He will assume executive responsibility for the Company's Information Technology, Logistics, and Corporate Purchasing departments and other administrative areas in the future. Mr. Murray also will join the Company's Executive Committee.

"His previous experience in his areas of responsibility and his business acumen will be strong assets in enhancing our Company's execution and improvements in operating metrics for the long term."

Mr. Murray will report to Mike Coppola, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Coppola will assume the Chief Executive Officer position on May 18th at the Company's Annual Shareholders Meeting.

Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Murray most recently served as Senior Vice President of Store Operations for Food Lion, based in Salisbury, North Carolina, with whom he was employed for 16 years. He received both his Bachelor of Science in Business and Accounting and MBA from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
