TRW Wins World Traffic Safety Symposium Award
LIVONIA, Mich., April 5 -- TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. today was recognized for its efforts to advance traffic safety at the 2005 World Traffic Safety Symposium, which was held in conjunction with the New York International Automobile Show in New York City. TRW earned a Traffic Safety Achievement Award in the Supplier category.
"The Symposium recognizes organizations that are creating a safer environment for motorists and pedestrians," said Mark Schienberg, president, New York International Auto Show. "TRW is the first supplier to earn a Traffic Safety Achievement Award in the Supplier category because the company is a leader in automotive safety."
According to Schienberg, Traffic Safety Achievement Awards are presented based on the selection of the Symposium's Advisory Committee, which is composed of auto safety experts from government agencies, educational institutions and private foundations. "When the Advisory Committee was reviewing candidates for the award, TRW stood out because it designs, develops and produces one of the widest and most comprehensive array of safety products in the industry," Schienberg said.
A number of TRW technologies were noted for their role in advancing traffic safety -- including active safety systems that help drivers avoid collisions and passive safety systems that help protect vehicle occupants when a crash does occur.
The New York International Auto Show, held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, is the largest in North America, with attendance topping 1.3 million people annually. The annual World Traffic Safety Symposium was founded in 1990 to address the growing concern of traffic injuries and fatalities on roadways. The Symposium, sponsored by the New York International Auto Show, is dedicated to bringing auto manufacturers, public and private organizations, and the media together to share information and discuss innovative ways to make vehicles and highways safer.
Bill VanderRoest, technical director of Foundation Brakes, accepted TRW's Traffic Safety Achievement Award. Three additional companies earned Awards: Ford Motor Co. (in the Automaker category), Continental Teves (Community Service category) and Parents Magazine (Media category).
