NHRA PACIFIC DIVISION LUCAS OIL RACERS BLOW DOWN SIR DRAGSTRIP
TUCSON, Ariz. - Although qualifying was delayed by high winds
early in the day, the first rounds of qualifying at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag
Racing Series event at Southwestern International Raceway (SIR) are in the
books. Top Alcohol Dragster driver Steve Federlin and Top Alcohol Funny Car
pilot Larry Miner took the No. 1 qualifying positions in their classes.
Federlin, of Oregon City Ore., outran the field with a pass of 5.544 seconds
at 255.34 mph. And Lodi, Calif., resident Miner made a 5.761-second, 248.93
mph run to surpass the field.
Top qualifiers in other classes were Vinnie Deceglie of Alta Loma, Calif.,
in Comp Eliminator; Monarch Beach, Calif., racer Randy Jones in Super Stock;
Scott Burton, Golden, Colo., in Stock Eliminator; and Paul Gladden of Tracy,
Calif., in Top Comp.
Racing continues Saturday at SIR. Gates open at 7 a.m. and
final qualifying and time trials start at 8 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and
Top Alcohol Funny Car will qualify at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. Eliminations will
start Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
Tickets are $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 11 to 16 years old are
$10 each day and kids 10 and under are admitted free. For more information
