Farmers Introduces Y.E.S. Discount In Texas; Teen Drivers Will Be Eligible for 5% Discount

AUSTIN, Texas--April 1, 2005--The Farmers Insurance Group of Companies is pleased to announce the expansion of the "You're Essential to Safety" (Y.E.S.) Program in Texas. The Y.E.S. program educates new drivers with facts about driving and shows them true-life stories about young people who have learned difficult driving lessons. Drivers who participate in the Y.E.S. program may be eligible for a 5% discount on their vehicle.

"We have developed a comprehensive driving safety program that provides our youthful drivers with specific information regarding driving habits, then allows them to come to their own conclusion. Teens who participate in the program will benefit two-fold -- not only will they be more safety conscious on the road, but they can save money on their policy as well," said John Hageman, Texas State Executive Director.

Under the "file and use" rating provisions of Senate Bill 14, Farmers Companies are now able to offer its 5 percent "You're Essential to Safety" (Y.E.S.) discount to Texas families with young drivers currently insured by Farmers' Mid-Century Insurance Company of Texas. Approximately 55,000 Farmers customers in Mid-Century are eligible for this discount, which will be applied to their auto insurance premiums if the young drivers in their family enroll and complete the Farmers certified Y.E.S. program. Mid-Century Insurance Company of Texas will begin to apply the Y.E.S. program discount to eligible customers effective April 1, 2005.

Completing the Y.E.S. program is simple. The young driver views the video, called "Wrecked," with his or her parents and reviews a workbook covering the material. At the end of the program, the workbook must be completed and signed by the agent, youthful driver and parents or guardians. Discounts will be awarded to youthful drivers who complete the video program and maintain the program's requirements.
