Marc Sluszny has joined the home team for les 24 Heures du Mans 2005.
Sluszny, of Antwerp, Belgium, will drive the Luc Alphand Aventures Porsche
911 GT3 RS with fellow adventurer Luc Alphand of Le Mans, France. The
prestigious 24-hour race is scheduled for June 18 and 19 on the 13.65-km Le
Mans circuit.
Sluszny is halfway to his goal of driving in the world's major 24-hour
races, with finishes in the 24 Uren van Zolder and 24 Hours of Spa (both
Belgium) and the Rolex 24 At Daytona (USA). He'll add the Nürburgring 24
Hour Race (Germany) and les 24 Heures du Mans (France) this summer, followed
by the next Bathurst 24-Hour Race (Australia). He recently finished fourth
in the GT class in the 12 Hours of Sebring (USA).
Alphand has three top-five GT finishes in les 24 Heures du Mans. He was
second in the 2005 Dakar Rally, his third start in the grueling
cross-continental challenge. He has also scored several victories in Baja
racing. Off-track, he shares Sluszny's passion for sports -- he is a former
Olympic downhill skier, World Cup race winner and French champion.
Sluszny holds the world record in bungee jumping from a hot-air balloon and
the Belgian record in hang-gliding aerobatics looping. He is a former sky
surfing champion and a member of the first team to incorporate acrobatic
stunts in a BASE jump (sky diving from a fixed object – Building, Antenna,
Span or Earth – with only one parachute). He swam the English Channel solo
and climbed Annapurna without oxygen. He has represented Belgium in Davis
Cup tennis and Olympic fencing, and was the first Belgian to crew in the
Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
"Here we go for a new adventure!" Sluszny said. "It will be an honor and a
pleasure to drive with someone who has achieved so much in different sports.
I think we're going to have a very good understanding, as we probably have
the same courage and focus."
