XATA Corporation Selects DPAC Embedded 802.11 Wireless LAN Node Module

GARDEN GROVE, Calif.--March 29, 2005--
-- XATA's onboard fleet management system combines satellite and
   802.11b wireless communications
-- DPAC Technologies shipping production orders

XATA Corporation , the leader in onboard fleet management systems for private fleet transportation, and DPAC Technologies , the leader in embedded and packaged wireless solutions for a wide range of telematics applications, announces that XATA has integrated DPAC's Airborne(TM), Wireless LAN Node Module into its new multi-mode communications platform. The XATA platform couples satellite technology's ubiquitous coverage with the high-speed data download capabilities of 802.11 wireless networks.

The integration of DPAC's hardened 802.11 wireless module allows XATA fleet customers to utilize a "least-cost" approach to routing, enabling switching between satellite and wireless local area networks based on available coverage. Fleets can leverage high-speed wireless local area networks while reducing ongoing wireless communication and software management costs.

XATA's patent-pending MobileSync(TM) over-the-air application management makes new features instantly available and reduces the software update costs in vehicles. This allows fleets to select and implement additional applications and overcome the traditional implementation bottlenecks associated with onboard technology.

"The DPAC Airborne Wireless LAN Node Module was chosen for its built-in wireless networking features plus its ability to operate in the harsh environmental conditions found in heavy truck fleet vehicles," says Peter Thayer, Chief Technical Officer, XATA. "Fleet customers are demanding the increased flexibility and reduced costs provided by 802.11 wireless communications."

According to Greg Gower, Vice President, DPAC, "Launching WiFi connectivity with XATA, a market leader with 20 years of experience supplying onboard fleet management solutions, is a pleasure and validation of DPAC's capabilities. DPAC's 802.11 Airborne Wireless LAN Node Module delivers automotive-grade 802.11 wireless connectivity ideally suited for telematics applications."
