Toyota Starts Diesel Engine Production in Poland

Tokyo March 28, 2005; Aki Tsukioka writing for JCNN reported that Toyota Motor and Toyota Industries jointly announced the March 21 launch of production of 2.2-litter diesel engines at Toyota Motor Industries Poland (TMIP), their engine manufacture joint venture in Poland.

Established at a capitalization of 28 billion yen ($267 mil) in October 2002, TMIP has an annual production capacity of 180,000 units.

The new 2.2-litter diesel engine will be shipped to Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK for the Toyota Avensis model. TMIP also plans to supply diesel engines for the Corolla model manufactured in Europe.

TMIP currently employs 350 people, and the workforce will be increased to 900 by 2006.
