Strong 2004 Lands Cummins on Business Week's ``Top 50'' List
COLUMBUS, Ind.--March 28, 2005--Cummins record-breaking year in 2004 has been recognized by Business Week magazine, which named the Company to its latest annual list of top 50 performers. Cummins was ranked No. 29 on the magazine's list, which is featured in the current issue.Business Week compared the one- and three-year financials of every company included in the Standard & Poor's 500 index to arrive at its list of top performers. The magazine examined each company across a number of financial metrics, including sales and earnings growth; net profit margins; return on equity and shareholder return.
Cummins jumped more than 200 spots from the previous year after reporting record sales, earnings before income and taxes (EBIT) and net income in 2004 - as well as a nearly 75 percent shareholder return.
For all of 2004, Cummins reported revenue of $8.4 billion, a 34 percent increase from 2003. The Company reported EBIT of $545 million and net income of $350 million in 2004, as all of the Company's business units posted record revenues.
