AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Texas Gas Prices Hit $2 Mark
IRVING, Texas--March 25, 2005--Gasoline prices in all Texas cities surveyed set new record highs this week pushing the statewide average price slightly above two dollars a gallon, according to AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price for a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline is $2.033 - up seven cents from last week's average of $1.962 a gallon.
Corpus Christi has the lowest average at $1.989 a gallon - up four cents. Dallas has the highest average on the list at $2.049 a gallon - up about seven cents.
"Motorists in Texas are paying record prices for a gallon of gasoline as pump prices have increased everyday for the past week," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "The tragedy at the nation's third largest refinery in Texas City this week is not expected to drive retail prices higher because the damaged unit was involved with high octane production. However, the concern now should be for the employees who were injured in the explosion and those who died."
The national average for regular self-serve gasoline also hit an all-time high of $2.116 - up six cents from last week.
AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for automobile trips.
