CLAY SMITH CAMS “MR. HORSEPOWER” TO RIDE WITH CAMARENA IN 2005
PLACENTIA, Calif. (March 23, 2005) – Freddie Camarena, Pro Stock Motorcycle rider in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, is pleased to announce that legendary Clay Smith Cams has joined his program in an associate sponsorship role.
“I am thrilled that a company so universally recognized as Clay Smith Cams is going to be on my motorcycle,” Camarena said. “I am looking forward to taking their legendary mascot for the ride of his life. He better chomp down hard on that cigar,” he joked.
The mascot that Camarena referred to is “Mr. Horsepower,” the familiar red woodpecker with a cigar in his beak that can be found on toolboxes and garages across the United States. Clay Smith Cams will join associate sponsors Embee Performance, Racegirl, and LaundryParts.com on the Placentia, Calif., rider’s 2002 Suzuki TL 1000. Camerena is still searching for primary sponsorship.
Clay Smith Cams is celebrating their 75th anniversary in 2005, a legacy of high performance that began in the early 1930s with camshafts that were literally hand-ground by founder Clay Smith to exacting specifications. Information on the Buena Park, Calif., company can be found on the Internet at www.ClaySmithCams.com, or by calling (714) 523-0530.
“We are so happy to join Freddie Camarena and his Pro Stock Motorcycle team,” said Patty Striegel, co-owner of Clay Smith Cams. “We are looking forward to joining him in the winner’s circle.”
Camarena’s next race will be the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway, set for April 8-10. Set last season, Camarena’s career-best elapsed time is 7.189-seconds over the quarter-mile, with a best speed of 189.71 mph.
