Event marks ECD Ovonics' 20-year anniversary on NASDAQ
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., March 23 -- Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (ECD Ovonics) will celebrate 20 years on The NASDAQ Stock Market by presiding over the closing ceremony on Wednesday, March 30, at 4:00 p.m. EST. Robert C. Stempel, Chairman and CEO, and Stanford R. Ovshinsky, President, CTO and co-founder, will ring the bell to close the market in New York.

* May 1984 - Dedication of 1MW continuous roll-to-roll photovoltaic (solar) manufacturing plant in Troy, Michigan
* May 1992 - United States Advanced Battery Consortium awards ECD first contract to develop Ovonic NiMH batteries for electric vehicles
* May 1995 - Ovonic NiMH batteries power electric vehicle to record 238 miles in 1995 American Tour de Sol race
* May 1996 - Four-passenger car with Ovonic NiMH batteries wins Tour de Sol race; 373 miles on a single charge
* February 1996 - United Solar Ovonic, our wholly owned subsidiary, unveils the 5MW plant, the most advanced production line for the manufacture of thin-film photovoltaic products, in Troy, Michigan
* November 1998 - United Solar Ovonic's ultralight photovoltaic modules installed on the MIR space station; orbited around the earth for 19 months (253 million miles) providing valuable data
* February 2000 - Intel Capital invests in Ovonyx, Inc., ECD's joint venture with Tyler Lowrey to further develop and commercialize the Ovonic Unified Memory (OUM)
* June 2002 - United Solar Ovonic inaugurates its 8th generation thin- film solar cell manufacturing machine, the world's largest, in Auburn Hills, Michigan
* November 2003 - Cobasys LLC, the 50-50 Ovonic NiMH battery manufacturing joint venture between ECD and ChevronTexaco Corp., commissions its 170,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Springboro, Ohio; receives QS 9000 and ISO 14000 certification
* December 2004 - ECD expands the scope of Ovonic NiMH battery licenses granted to Cobasys, positioning it as a global provider of batteries for transportation, stationary power and military markets
