First Round Knock Out Does Not Curb Cruz Pedregon¹s Enthusiasm
 
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 20, 2005) ­ Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto
Parts Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car put together an aggressive game plan for
attacking the first round of today¹s Mac Tools Gatornationals at Gainesville
Raceway.

Pedregon left hard, smoked the tires and watched as opponent and No. 8
qualifier Whit Bazemore drove to a 4.869-second elapsed time at 316.67 mph.
Despite the disappointment, Pedregon is still upbeat about what lies ahead.

³Gainesville is a fast track and we were a little too aggressive when
leaving the starting line,² Pedregon said. ³Once you lose traction, there¹s
a very fine line between traction and no traction. What happened today was
similar to yesterday¹s last qualifying run. Today, my team set up the car in
response to that, and even though the tires did not spin until a full-car
length further, it still occurred.

³When you are one of the top teams, you have to take chances if you want to
win,² Pedregon continued. ³I have confidence that my team and my crew chief
(Wes Cerny) will make the proper adjustments. All I have to do is focus on
doing a good job driving. But, if there¹s something that all these years of
racing have taught me, is that you need to learn from experience and then
move on. This is a long season and we still have twenty races in front of us
and I am already focusing in Houston and Las Vegas.²
