(March 20, 2005) Tony Pedregon had only one chance to drive his ŒQ¹ Racing Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car because a faulty tire cut his chances short during round one of today¹s Mac Tools NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway. Pedregon, Gainesville NHRA Funny Car winner from 2002, drove to a 4.991-second elapsed time at 247.93 mph, falling to Bob Gilbertson¹s 4.924-second elapsed time at 311.41 mph. ³We experienced a very rare incident when one of the tires began to lose air pressure and the car moved to the center (of the track),² said Pedregon. ³As I approached the 1,000-foot mark, my choice was to shut off early or cross over to the other lane, so I had to let go. I think it was a tough weekend, but its encouraging to know our car is one of the top five performers in the field.² The ŒQ¹ Racing team is ready to tackle the upcoming NHRA Spring Nationals in Baytown, Texas. ³I realize my crew and all of my sponsors have put a lot of effort into this team,² Pedregon said. ³Our next race is in Quaker State¹s backyard (of Houston). We¹d like to prove what we¹re capable of.
