LUCAS OIL SERIES FIELDS SET AT ORLANDO SPEED WORLD
ORLANDO, Fla. - In the finals rounds of qualifying at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event being held this weekend at Orlando Speed World Dragway, Rod Dorsey, Bob Dennis and Jeff Velde lead qualifying in their respective fields.
In his final qualifying attempt, Dorsey of North Junction, Ind., moved from the No. 8 spot to the top of the Comp Eliminator field with a time of 9.063 seconds. In the No. 2 spot is the '05 Sunfire of defending Southeast Division Champion Larry Pritchett of Clarkrange, Tenn. Pritchett is trailed by Tony Stephenson of Willow Spring, N.C.
Dennis, of Shorter, Ala., took over the top spot in Super Stock held yesterday by Dover, Pa., racer Dennis Stewart. Stewart is now qualified second, while Dave Layer of Dayton, Ohio holds the third position.
In Stock Eliminator, Velde of Vero Beach, Fla., captured the top spot in the class with a pass of 9.960 seconds. Behind Velde is Bert Morgan of Charleston, Ill. Jim Wahl of Deltona, Fla. rounds out the top three.
In TracStar Systems Satellite Top Sportsman Series competition, yesterday's top two qualifiers, Ronnie Davis of Commerce, Ga., and Jim Harrington of Navarre, Fla., held on to their positions. In the No. 3 position is defending division champ, Gilmer Hinshaw.
Sunday's racing action will feature eliminations in Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street as well as the TracStar Systems Satellites Top Sportsman Series.
Gates at Orlando Speed World Dragway open Sunday at 8 a.m. Final eliminations are scheduled to begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. Tickets, including a pit pass, are $25 on Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
