AAA Clubs of Minnesota to Showcase NASCAR Nextel Cup Race Car and Racing Simulator at Auto Show
What: AAA Minnesota/Iowa's parent company, The Auto Club Group, has signed a contract with Roush Racing to sponsor the No. 99 AAA Ford Taurus, driven by Carl Edwards, at NASCAR Nextel Cup Series races in 2005. A full-size replica of the race car will be on display at the Minneapolis Auto Show. A Roush Racing Simulator will also be on display for Auto Show attendees to test their driving skills in a virtual experience of roaring around the track at 175 miles per hour. When: The race car and simulator will be on display during the entire Auto Show. The public is encouraged to test their driving skills on the simulator except during the time set aside for the media, who will have exclusive access to the simulator from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16. During that time, Jeff Ogden, president and chief operating officer of AAA Minnesota/Iowa, will be available for interviews concerning the sponsorship and to race any members of the media in the side-by-side simulator. To participate, no appointment is necessary, but it is encouraged. Call Shannon Swanson, at (952) 707-4623 to schedule a specific time for your race. Where: Minneapolis Convention Center, AAA booth, 2nd Floor Why: The sponsorship of a NASCAR ties into AAA's century long commitment to supporting continued improvement in vehicle safety. Many of the features taken for granted on today's passenger vehicles, such as lap and shoulder safety belts and hydraulic brakes, were introduced and perfected in a racecar. NASCAR races will continue to be the proving ground for new safety equipment.
