7-Eleven, Inc. Reports February 2005 Sales Results; U.S. Same-Store Merchandise Sales Rise 5.7 Percent
DALLAS, March 10 -- 7-Eleven, Inc. , today reported February 2005 sales results. Total February 2005 sales were $919.9 million, an increase of 6.3 percent over February 2004 sales of $865.2 million. Total merchandise sales for February 2005 were $587.4 million, an increase of 3.1 percent over the February 2004 total of $569.6 million. U.S. same-store merchandise sales for February 2005 increased 5.7 percent, on top of a 6.2 percent increase in February 2004.
Gasoline sales for February 2005 were $332.5 million, a 12.5 percent increase compared to $295.6 million in the prior-year period. Average gallons sold per store increased 2.0 percent in February 2005 compared to the February 2004 result. The average retail price of gasoline for February 2005 was $1.94, compared to $1.69 in February 2004.
Total sales of merchandise and gasoline benefited from one extra day due to leap year in February 2004, which primarily accounts for the lower growth rate in the total year-over-year comparison. Both the U.S. same-store merchandise comparison and the average gallons-sold-per-store comparison are calculated on an average per-store-day basis and are unaffected by the extra day.
Year-to-Date Results
The results below compare year-to-date results through February 2005 to the same period last year:
* U.S. same-store merchandise sales have grown 5.2 percent, on top of a 5.5 percent increase for 2004. * Merchandise sales are $1,205.1 million, an increase of 4.5 percent. * Gasoline sales total $673.2 million, an increase of 14.0 percent. * Average gallons sold per store have increased 1.2 percent. When determining the same-store merchandise sales calculation, the company includes the merchandise sales of both its U.S. company-owned and franchise- operated stores if they were operating for all days of the periods being compared. New stores, relocated stores or rebuilt stores are not included in the same-store sales calculation until they have recorded merchandise sales for all days of the periods being compared.
