GXS' Russian Data Pool Now Live; GS1-Certified Data Pool Reduces Barriers to Entry for Global Retailers and Suppliers in Emerging Russian Market
MOSCOW & GAITHERSBURG, Md.--March 9, 2005--GXS, a leading provider of B2B e-commerce solutions, the International Foundation for Automatic Identification (IFAI) and Uniscan today announced the official launch and availability of Russia's GS1-certified global data synchronization (GDS) country data pool, RusDP1. The data pool, based on the GS1-certified GXS Data Pool Manager platform, will enable 10,000 Russian companies to leverage the benefits of implementing global supply chain standards, including the GS1-sponsored GDS initiative.Russia represents a growth market for global retailers and consumer products companies. Local and regional retailers need to adopt standards-based best practices to build a competitive footing for global trade. Uniscan was challenged with quickly deploying a solution that addressed the needs of its user community, while ensuring the solution offered long term viability and global compatibility. GXS Data Pool Manager addressed these needs by providing a certified platform that interoperates with the GS1 Global Registry and all other data pools in that network. The data pool is available in both Russian and English languages, so that Russian companies can trade easily and efficiently with each other and their global partners, becoming part of a growing network of synchronized data. Additionally, by partnering with GXS, Uniscan's members will be well positioned to capitalize on advanced technologies such as RFID and Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR) systems.
"Our membership base is comprised of more than 10,000 retailers, suppliers, manufacturers and vendors that must be able to trade on a global stage to viably compete," said George Nasonov, deputy general director of Uniscan. "Leveraging the unmatched resources and knowledge base of GXS and IFAI allows us to reduce time to market and launch this data pool to make the vision of a global supply chain a reality for the Russian market."
The RusDP1 data pool service was deployed using GXS Data Pool Manager, a solution for community-based organizations that seek to benefit from an industry-standard data pool solution. GXS Data Pool Manager is designed to lower barriers to GDS implementations by providing a certified data pool as a managed service that is configured to specific geographic market needs. GXS powers more GS1-certified data pools than any other service provider worldwide.
"Having previously supported data pool development in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, New Zealand, Taiwan and the United Kingdom, and now Russia, we appreciate first-hand the need to enable retailers and their supply chain partners to efficiently address the needs of specific consumer markets," said Ross Curtis, senior vice president of worldwide field operations at GXS. "The launch of Russia's data pool is significant for Uniscan and the Russian supply chain community, and demonstrates GXS' commitment to making the GS1 Global Data Synchronization Network a reality."
