Judge Damon Keith Closes Chrysler Group's Annual Black History Month Celebrations

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., March 4 -- Chrysler Group hosted Judge Damon Keith as its annual Black History Month celebrations came to a close on Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum. In conjunction with the DaimlerChrysler African-American Network (DCAAN), one of six employee resource groups, the Company sponsored a month-long series of events to celebrate black history, including a series of Brown Bag seminars and historical displays.

Judge Keith, who has served as a United States Court of Appeals Judge for the Sixth Circuit Court since 1977, spoke to DaimlerChrysler employees on many key issues relating to African-American history and law. Prior to his current role, Judge Keith served as Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Known for many landmark decisions, including school desegregation and affirmative action, he is most cited for his ruling on evidence obtained through warrantless electronic surveillance in United States vs. Sinclair.

Judge Keith, the recipient of 37 honorary degrees, has received many esteemed awards signifying his dedication to defending the constitution and civil rights of all people, including the American Bar Association's Spirit of Excellence Award and the Detroit Urban League's Distinguished Warrior Award.

Chrysler Group's month-long celebration included a Marketing Display highlighting historical points in DaimlerChrysler's African-American history; a Design Studio Concept Vehicle Display showcasing photos of Chrysler Group vehicles and Ralph Gilles, Director of Product Design; and an African-American History Display containing the Damon J. Keith Collection of African American Legal History.
