Alcoa Expands Supplier Relationship with Shanghai Aircraft of China

PITTSBURGH & CHANGZHONG ROAD, Shanghai--March 2, 2005--Alcoa announced today that its Global Extruded and End Products business has received a multiyear contract (2005-2009) from Chinese aircraft manufacturer Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Factory (SAMF) to provide aluminum extrusions for the horizontal stabilizer tail section assembly of the Boeing 737, one of the best selling commercial aircraft in aviation history. This is the second contract in China Alcoa Global Extruded and End Products received for assembly of the Boeing 737. Last December, Alcoa announced it was supplying Xian Aircraft of China with extrusions for the vertical tail assembly of the 737 from 2005 to 2007.

SAMF is a current supplier of aircraft components in support of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group.

Alcoa will produce a total of 650,000 pounds of hard alloy aluminum extrusions a year at its Lafayette, Indiana, facility in the U.S. and at its Changwon Precision Extrusions plant in South Korea for shipment to SAMF starting immediately. China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC) will act as the import agent for SAMF under this agreement.

This new contract with SAMF extends Alcoa's supplier relationship with SAMF, as Alcoa is also a major supplier of aluminum sheet and plate and aerospace fasteners to the aircraft manufacturer.
