From Ecuador to Singapore: Mobil 1 Provides Protection for LONGITUDE Expedition's Drive around the World
FAIRFAX, Va.--March 1, 2005--41,000 Mile, 31-Country, Four Continent-Trek Successfully Completed |
ExxonMobil and the Drive Around the World organization today celebrate the finale of a 16-month, 41,000-mile (66,000-kilometer) drive around the world to raise awareness and funds to help cure Parkinson's Disease. As a key sponsor, ExxonMobil supplied the team's Land Rover vehicles with Mobil 1 motor oil, transmission fluids and gear lubricants to protect their engines, transmissions and gears during the trek's extreme weather and unpredictable road conditions.
"We are proud that Mobil 1 could provide the outstanding protection needed to complete the rugged Drive Around the World expedition, and be part of such a worthwhile event," said Mike Mullins, vice president, marketing, ExxonMobil Lubricants & Specialties.
After driving across four continents, more than 30 countries and 41,000 miles, the Drive Around the World LONGITUDE Expedition team ended its journey today at the Parkinson's Institute in Sunnyvale, Calif. More than $65,000 has been raised to date and a donation total will be announced, after the team's 2003 Land Rover Certified Pre-Owned vehicle has been raffled off. Donations are being accepted, and there is still a chance to enter the raffle by going to www.drivearoundtheworld.com/support.
"A 16-month overland expedition, without proper engine oil, would never leave the garage," says Nick Baggarly, executive director, Drive Around the World. "Knowing that our engines and moving parts were protected with Mobil 1 motor oil gave us the peace of mind and confidence that our vehicle engines would stay free from corrosion and remain fluid in the extreme environments we faced."
Mobil 1, the world's leading synthetic motor oil, has the technology to exceed the toughest standards of Japanese, European and U.S. car builders -- and to provide exceptional protection against engine wear, under normal or even the most extreme conditions. Mobil 1 is original equipment in some of the world's finest automobiles.
"Mobil 1 was designed to protect engines under the most demanding of conditions, so the team's driving challenges of navigating the Sechuran desert dunes of Peru and cold starts in Siberia and icy Tierra del Fuego provided another great proving ground for us," said Mullins. "This effort supports our belief that there is no better motor oil than Mobil 1, regardless of where you drive."
"Ultimately, during our trip, the only thing protecting us was our vehicles. And the only thing protecting them was Mobil 1," Baggarly added. "Even when we encountered temperatures as low as minus 58 degrees our windshields began to crack but our engines just kept running."
LONGITUDE is the third long-distance driving expedition for Drive Around the World, a nonprofit organization based in Los Gatos, California. Established in 2002, Drive Around the World is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that seeks to inspire a sense of adventure and the tradition of exploration, encouraging people to actively learn about our world and creatively act to understand the humanitarian and environmental problems we face.
