Car category for this weekendıs NHRA National Event at Firebird Intıl
Raceway in Chandler, Ariz.

PEDREGON RACING NOTEBOOK: Tony Pedregon grabbed the number one qualifying
spot at Firebird Intıl Raceway tonight by fueling his Q Racing Monte Carlo
Nitro Funny Car to a 4.703-second elapsed time at 325.06 mph. If his time
holds through tomorrowıs two sessions, it will be the second time in a row
Pedregon has captured the top spot. So far, Pedregon has broken both the
Firebird Raceway and Pomona Raceway time records.

³In 2004, we got to the final at Firebird Intıl Raceway and we had a good
test at this track earlier in the season,ı Pedregon said. ³Last year was a
building period, but now we have seen the results of our hard work. It was
Dickieıs (Venables) first year as a crew chief in 2004, but now heıs more
comfortable in what heıs doing and weıre communicating a lot better
together. 

³The goal for today was to run without really leaning a lot in the motor,²
Pedregon continued. ³Now, the key for us will be to run well tomorrow and
get to the final on Sunday,² concluded Pedregon.
