THURSDAY PRACTICE QUOTES
FEBRUARY 24, 2005
JACK SPRAGUE, NO. 16 CHEVY TRUCKS CHEVROLET SILVERADO: NOTE: Sprague
suffered a broken left heel in fall at his Charlotte-area home Wednesday, February
23, 2005. Mike Bliss was behind the wheel for the majority of both practice
sessions. Sprague turned the first six laps of the second practice session
and posted the 10th fastest time of the day. “I felt good in the truck. The
guys helped me get my foot comfortable and Bliss worked hard in the first
practice session to get the No. 16 Chevy Trucks Silverado just about perfect. It
drove really well; about the best I have ever had a truck at California
Speedway. We will continue with our plan to have him qualify and I will start it
the race at the back of the field and see how far we can go. I will get out
if it is the best thing for the team to do because as long as we don’t lose a
lap on the driver change, Bliss can take the truck to the front and bring
home a strong finish.??
MIKE BLISS, NO. 16 CHEVY TRUCKS CHEVROLET SILVERADO: NOTE: Bliss is driving
in place of the injured Jack Sprague. Bliss ran the entire first 40-minute
session and returned to the cockpit after Sprague turned six laps at the
beginning of the second practice. “The Chevy Trucks Silverado is awesome. It was
good when I jumped in it in the first practice session so we really didn’t
have to do much to it. It is just really good. I don’t think Jack will get
out of it personally the truck is that good. It ran just as fast at the end of
a tire run as it did as it did at the beginning of a tire run so that is
pretty good.
“The plan is still for me to qualify tomorrow but Jack was pretty pumped up
when he got out today so we will see how it he feels tomorrow morning.??
KERRY EARNHARDT, NO. 15 KRAFT FOODS/ALBERTSON SILVERADO: NOTE: Earnhardt
made contact with the turn two wall about 30 minutes in the second practice.
The team pulled out the backup truck but was unable to complete the switch in
time for Earnhardt to take any laps. “It just got away from me. I don’t
really know what happened. Ritchie (Wauters, crew chief) and the guys pulled
out the backup truck. We won’t really know what we have until we go out
tomorrow to qualify.??
