WD-40 Company and Import Tuner Magazine Auction Record-Setting Engine on eBay; Proceeds From Sale to Promote Safe Racing Organizations

SAN DIEGO--Feb. 24, 2005--Everyone knows car enthusiasts love horsepower. WD-40 Company and Primedia are answering the call by offering millions of car enthusiasts the chance to bid on an award-winning, four-cylinder, 283-horsepower engine that turned an 11.3-second quarter-mile at Los Angeles County Race last November.

The highest bidder in the auction, which will take place on eBay Feb. 24 - March 6, will take home a B-Series engine that has a horsepower output higher than that of the beloved V-8 1965 Mustang. When the engine was dropped into a stock Honda Civic and raced at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats, the car hit 161 miles per hour -- a record in its class.

WD-40 Company and Primedia's Import Tuner magazine will donate the auction proceeds to Racers Against Street Racing, a national organization that runs educational outreach programs to heighten awareness about the dangers and consequences of illegal street racing, and Race Legal, a San Diego-based agency that works with the California Office of Traffic Safety and the San Diego Police Department's Drag Net Unit to provide alternatives to illegal street racing in San Diego.

The engine was built by one of the most well-known motor builders in the compact performance industry as part of last year's "WD-40(R) B-Series Shootout," a competition that gave five contestants four months to assemble an engine with the parts of their choice.

The "Shootout" judging criteria consisted of peak horsepower and torque, best power band horsepower, best power band torque and horsepower per dollar. R&D Dyno from Glendale, Calif., built the winning engine and dominated the competition, walking away the winner in every category except horsepower per dollar.

The engine will be up for auction to the general public from Feb. 24, 2005 - March 6, 2005. To bid on the engine or track the auction on eBay, visit ebaymotors.com and search for item no. 7957478095.
