Terry Borcheller - Homestead preview

Terry Borcheller will be in familiar territory next week, driving in the
Rolex Sports Car Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, just south of his
childhood home in Hialeah, Fla. Now a resident of Gainesville, Ga.,
Borcheller will again be behind the wheel of the No. 54 Bell Motorsports
/Feeds the Need Pontiac-powered Doran JE4. His co-driver Christian
Fittipaldi lives in nearby Biscayne Bay and the team is based in Tavernier,
Fla., so the car should be a local favorite.

 

After winning the 2003 Rolex Series championship and the 2004 Rolex 24 At
Daytona, Borcheller and Bell/FTN have struggled to lead the top level of the
series. Borcheller said the key to renewed success is basic – forge a
trouble-free race on the 2.3-mile infield road course in Homestead, Fla., on
March 5.

 

"For an oval road course, it has a good flow to it. We've tested there quite
a bit and it's the team's home track, so we're hoping to have a good
result," he said. "I would like to just run a race without having any
issues. My approach to this weekend is to go in and do the best job that I
can possibly do."

Borcheller started a new fitness program this month, after his workout
partner was called up to play with a minor league baseball team.

 

"I started with Major League Conditioning when I was in Phoenix," Borcheller
said. "When I moved to Atlanta last year, I did my own thing. This year, I
hooked up with a major league baseball player. We just wanted each other's
support to help each other push in our training. Now he's out of town, so I
had to figure out what to do. I'm meeting with a personal trainer who is
pro-athlete-specific, so he'll format a regimen that I'm sure will be really
helpful."

The Rolex Sports Car Series race will run on Saturday, March 5 from 3 pm to
5:45 pm on the 2.3-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway infield road course in
Homestead, Fla. The race will be telecast live on pee Channel from 3 pm to
6 pm.
