GXS to Drive Efficiency in GM Daewoo Automotive Trade Globally; Leading Automotive OEM Selects GXS Trading Grid for Supply Chain Integration
HONG KONG & GAITHERSBURG, Md.--Feb. 2, 20053, 2005--GXS, a leading provider of B2B e-commerce solutions, today announced that GM Daewoo Auto and Technology (GM Daewoo) has chosen the GXS Trading Grid(SM) as its standard platform for managing and sharing supply-chain information with its trading partners. GM Daewoo, a designer of primary architecture for General Motors' small cars worldwide, selected the GXS Trading Grid as its B2B integration platform because it uniquely combines messaging and business process visibility, enabling the automotive manufacturer to streamline supply-chain operations and reduce operating costs.According to Kevin Mixer of industry analyst firm AMR Research, "Suppliers and customers need to move toward a real-time sharing of demand and consumption data to minimize costs from shortages or excess inventories from inaccurate demand. Only through such seamless visibility and demand collaboration can the industry take costs out of the supply chain instead of just shifting it within the supply chain" (AMR Research, Applying DDSN Correctly Can Shift Companies From Laggard to Braggart by Kevin Mixer with Joe Souza).
The GXS Trading Grid provides a continuum of connectivity, integration, visibility and interoperability services so that GM Daewoo and, its suppliers can move from web-based message exchange to more advanced process visibility and, eventually, end-to-end global process interoperability.
GM Daewoo will leverage the Trading Grid as part of a three-year agreement for GXS' EDI services to automate global trading and, drive process integration in the rapidly expanding Asian automotive industry. With the GXS Trading Grid, GM Daewoo will realize more real-time process and product information flow, better inventory control, lower costs and true end-to-end business process visibility, all on a global scale.
"This particular platform is for the Chevy Aveo, which is sold as the Opel Corsa in Europe and the Middle East," said Chang-tae Kim, deputy general manager of GM Daewoo. "By introducing the GXS Trading Grid we will enable greater global connectivity, increasing the number of current and potential suppliers that can quickly and cost-effectively connect to our supply chain, using automotive messaging and transport standards like ANX and ENX, from anywhere in the world."
GM Daewoo selected GXS over competing vendors based on the company's wide-reaching global presence, strong Korean support organization and deep supply chain expertise in China, India and the US.
"In today's global automotive market, supply chain integration, visibility and interoperability can be the difference between just-in-time and just-in-case," said Ben Wong, vice president of Asia-Pacific operations at GXS. "Automotive leaders like GM Daewoo recognize the unique capabilities GXS Trading Grid delivers to ensure superior supply chain performance both globally and here in Asia-Pacific."
Leading global OEMs, suppliers and standards organizations partner with GXS and deploy Trading Grid solutions and services to improve materials management, logistics and financial performance of their global supply chains. Distinguished by its global reach, industry expertise, messaging and translation infrastructure to service the rapidly growing Chinese automotive market, OEM's and suppliers recognize GXS as the leading solutions providers to address critical supply chain and interoperability issues for even the smallest automotive supplier.
